Our shop is on Edward Street in Jenison. It's not flashy. There's no showroom with backlit displays and a receptionist offering you coffee. What you get instead is my direct phone number and an honest answer when you call it.

When I say "family-owned," I mean it in the way that actually matters. I'm the one who answers the phone. I'm the one who shows up to your house. And I'm the one who stands behind the work after we leave. If something isn't right, you don't have to navigate a phone tree. You call me.

That's different from the bigger outfits in town. I've heard the stories from homeowners who've dealt with them — the $89 "diagnostic fee" that turns into a $3,000 quote for work they don't need. The technician who's been on the job for six months and still learning. The three-week wait for a callback.

We don't operate like that.

We handle heating and cooling for homes across the greater Grand Rapids area. That means:

There's pressure in this industry to grow. Buy more trucks. Hire more techs. Run more ads. Become the company that does everything for everyone.

I've watched other shops in the Grand Rapids area go that route. Some of them are fine businesses. But growth comes with trade-offs. The owner stops doing the work. Quality control gets harder. Overhead goes up, which means prices go up, which means you start selling things people don't need just to cover the bills.

We've stayed small because it lets me keep my hands on every job. I know what went into your system because I was there. If you call with a problem two years later, I remember your house, your furnace, and what we did.

That's not something you get from a company running 20 trucks out of a warehouse.

The West Michigan Connection

I grew up here. I know that a house in Heritage Hill has different HVAC needs than a new build in Hudsonville. I know that lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan means your furnace works harder than what the manufacturer specs assume. I know which neighborhoods have older ductwork and which ones were built with radiant heat.

When we recommend a system for your home, it's based on what actually works in this climate — not what some national sales program tells us to push.

West Michigan winters average lows in the mid-teens, and we've all seen weeks where it doesn't break zero. Your heating system is the most expensive appliance in your house, and it runs more hours per year here than in most of the country. Getting it right matters.

What "Honest" Means When We Say It

Every HVAC company says they're honest. Here's what it means when we say it:

• If your furnace needs a $150 part, we tell you it needs a $150 part. We don't tell you the whole system is "on its last legs" to push a $6,000 replacement.
• If your system has five good years left, we say so. We'll talk about what to plan for, but we won't manufacture urgency.
• If we can't get to you today, we say that too. We don't book a window we can't keep.

Who Calls Us

We serve homeowners across the greater Grand Rapids area. Most of our work is in Jenison, Hudsonville, Grandville, Georgetown Township, Wyoming, Kentwood, and Grand Rapids proper. We also handle calls in Zeeland, Holland, Allendale, and Byron Center when the schedule allows.

A lot of our new customers come from referrals. Their neighbor used us, their parents used us, their coworker mentioned us. That word-of-mouth is the reason we've never had to buy a billboard.

Still Here, Still Answering the Phone

Thirty-eight years in, the work hasn't changed as much as people think. Furnaces are more efficient. Thermostats are smarter. Heat pumps have gotten better in cold climates. But the basics are the same: install it right, maintain it regularly, fix it fast when it breaks, and be straight with people about what things cost.

That's what we do. That's all we've ever done.
